ABOUT THE ROLE

Licensed Attorney, Arizona

Arizona is where this role starts, and that is deliberate. Arizona was the first state to retire the rule barring nonlawyer ownership of legal businesses, the first to license legal paraprofessionals to practice in limited areas, and it has been the most serious state in the country about closing the gap between people who need a lawyer and people who can pay for one. There is more room here to build something that actually reaches people.
Most people who come to ProPera Legal are representing themselves because a retainer was never a real option. Some of them need a lawyer, and today we have nowhere good to send them. This role is how that changes.
You practice in your own name, under your own license, with your own professional judgment. What we provide is the case file, the drafting tools, and the client who was already going to court either way.
What you would do
◆
Take on clients who reach you through the platform, in your own practice and under your own license
◆
Offer limited scope and unbundled services where that is what the client needs and can afford
◆
Review documents a self-represented litigant has already drafted, and advise on what to do next
◆
Provide full representation on the matters that call for it
◆
Handle filings and appear at hearings for clients who retain you for that
◆
Tell us plainly where the platform gets self-representation wrong, so it can be fixed
What we are looking for
◆
An active license in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona
◆
At least five years practicing law
◆
Experience in family law, protective orders, housing, consumer, probate, or another area where self-represented litigants are common
◆
A record of limited scope or unbundled work, or a clear willingness to build one
◆
Your own professional liability coverage
◆
Comfort working remotely, and with software you have not used before
◆
The judgment to work well with clients who arrive mid-case, unrepresented, and often frightened
Nice to have
◆
Experience supervising legal paraprofessionals, or practicing inside an Arizona alternative business structure
◆
A meaningful pro bono or legal aid history
◆
Spanish fluency
◆
Admission in more than one state. We expect to open roles beyond Arizona
◆
Experience with court accommodation requests under Title II of the ADA
What you get
◆
You set your own rate. We do not cap it and we do not set it for you
◆
You choose which matters you take and how many hours you work
◆
Fully remote, on your own schedule
◆
Case files that arrive organized, with a drafting and formatting engine built for court filings
◆
A steady source of clients who are already in front of a judge
◆
A direct line to the people building the product
WHAT THIS ROLE IS NOT

Read this part twice.

◆
ProPera Legal is not a law firm and does not practice law.
◆
You exercise your own independent professional judgment on every matter. Nobody here directs it.
◆
The attorney client relationship is between you and your client.
◆
You remain responsible for conflicts checks, trust accounting, client confidentiality, and compliance with the Arizona Rules of Professional Conduct.
This posting is for general practice work in Arizona. We also have a class action role open in New York. If you are licensed in neither and want to be considered as we expand, write to us anyway and say which state.
